Princess Spaghetti Lunchbox

I received something very sweet in the post today - a Princess Spaghetti lunchbox!!!! Crammed full of sweets!!!!

Thank you so much to everyone at Scholastic who organised this.

I now have a problem. Do I :

A - eat all the sweets myself?

B - share them with my family?

c - take my favourites out and then share?

I think C is the fairest option (although A is very tempting).

Review of 'You Can't Eat A Princess!' And An Interview

Rosi Hollinbeck writes reviews of children's books for the Sacramento Book Review. She wrote a lovely review of 'You Can't Eat A Princess!' When I wrote a comment to thank her she asked me to do an interview. I said yes. The questions that Rosi sent me were well thought out and it took me a while to get my answers right!

Here's a link to the interview. I must say thank you to all the people who've taken time to write comments.

Children's History of Leeds - My New Book

My new book arrived in the post - Children's History of Leeds. I'm very impressed with how it looks. I've taken some photos to show you haw it looks. Sorry for the quality of the photos, I'm not a professional.

Thank you to Hometown World Publishers for asking me to write it. And thank you to Waterstones, Leeds for recommending me to the publisher.

I will be signing copies of this book at Waterstones, Albion St, Leeds this Saturday (30th July) at 2pm.

I have designed some exclusive activity sheets to go with the book when you order direct from me. Again, apologies for the quality. Thans to my lovely daughters for helping with the colouring in sheets.

Another thank you - to all the schools that have ordered the book from me so far. I hope you and the children enjoy reading them

You Can't Scare A Princess! The Book At Last!

I received something wonderful in the post this week - the actual paperback and hardback editions of 'You Can't Scare A Princess!' It usually takes years for an accepted story to be turned into the actual picture book, you can imagine the pictures take a long time to draw. Because the first Princess Spaghetti book was so popular (selling over 22,000 copies in the first year) the publishers, Scholastic, wanted another book to come out quickly. I had already written more stories for Princess Spaghetti so my part, including rewrites, was finished in August 2010. Then, I believe, Sarah was locked away in her office for months until she finished the pictures.

I read the book to the young children I work with. They loved it and sat in front of me with their mouths slightly open. There are lots of lovely details in the pictures and the children pointed out many things that I hadn't even noticed yet. Sarah has done an absolutely brilliant job - thank you! A big thank you to Scholastic for letting Princess Spaghetti go on another adventure.

Here are photos of the front and back cover. Also, there is one of 'You Can't Eat A Princess!' and 'You Can't Scare A Princess!' together - I think they look great.

You Can't Scare A Princess in The Bookseller

Here's a lovely piece from The Bookseller about the new Princess Spaghetti book - 'You Can't Scare A Princess!'

Publication day is getting nearer! 1st September. Hopefully, I will be doing something special for the launch with Sarah McIntyre, the illustrator of this book. We will be attending the Leeds Thought Bubble Festival together again this November. There will probably be a pirate theme to our table!
